Do you need a specific drivers license to drive a school bus size vehicle in the state of Texas?
I found a good deal on an old school bus/church bus and would like to use it for a recreational vehicle. Anyone know if requires a special DL?

1. Only if you are hauling passengers for hire. For a recreational vehicle, no.
2. If you convert it for personal use, you should not need any special endorsments to drive it. However, some states do require an endorsment for large recreational vehicles, such as motor homes, and 5th wheel trailers. double check the DMV for such information. for the most part you should be ok.
3. Yes you do. I don't remember all the requirements, but it has to do with weight and length. Over 26,000 pounds requires a non-CDL class B license. Test is no problem--If you cannot pass it, you don't need to be driving. VBG. There is a written part, just like for a car, and a driving part, just like a car. I passed it first time, no problem.
Many people will tell you that there is no special license needed---but there is. Check with the drivers' license people. Or, I am pretty sure that the book with rules can be downloaded.
4. yes in Texas that vehicle weight requires a commercial drivers license
