If I am converting a School Bus into a recreational vehicle, do I need a special license in the state of MN?

I have a school bus and I want to gut out most the seats and just use it to haul around ATVs. Would I need a special license in order to do that or will I be fine with a regular drivers license.

1. This is not the best place to find an answer to a question like this. You would be far better off contacting your local DMV, This is the place that would issue any special license it one is required. So they would give the best answer.

See the link below. It will help you find the closest DMV office, contact information, and office hours.

2. It will depend on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of the bus. If it is 26,000 lbs or less you do not need a special license. If it is over 26,001 lbs or more, you would need a Class B. In either case, as an RV, you would not need a CDL.

3. In most states.... there is a weight criteria & a criteria based on the number of axels

In the majority of states, it is also illegal to leave a school bus yellow if used for any other purpose than an actual school bus... and in FL there are alot of tickets written to people who re-purpose buses but do not repaint them. It only illegal, if you are driving.... not illegal when parked

In the majority of states, a school bus would require a CDL
