How to get the hot water working in a RV?

I have a Trail Lite/RVision 18ft RV but I don't know how to work the hot water. It's used, but new to us, and it is in new condition. We have do have propane. I would like to eventually use the shower but not without hot water.

Public Comments

1. walk around the outside of the RV and locate the hot water heater. open the door and follow instructions for lighting heater. if no external door is found, then you have controls inside the RV, probably on a control panel on the wall, or over the stove/oven.

2. You will probably have to remove the panel on the exterior and then light the pilot light just like a furnace. Follow the instructions.

One tip: it usually takes a while holding down the button before the pilot light will light, because there is air in the line that needs to be pushed out.

Since the gas flow to the pilot light is very slow, it takes a while to get all the air out.

Good luck and don't blow up the neighborhood.

P.S.
ANOTHER tip: sometimes spiders or other bugs put crap in the orifice preventing it (the pilot light) from working and it will have to be removed and cleaned out.

P.S.
most newer RV's have two or three ways to run the thing, AC, DC, GAS. YOURS most likely has a DC option, but running it on DC will quickly drain your battery if the engine is not running on the tow vehicle.
