camper rental for the East coast this summer?

i am trying to rent a camper or trailer or motor home for the summer for an east coast trip. how much would it be? say, from vermont to south carolina for a month. i would think this would be cheaper than renting a car and getting motel rooms.

1. Boy -- I don't know if it really would be cheaper or not.

I looked into this at one time and weekly rentals were 1000 to 1200. Some places charged a weekly mileage fee as well. Then add in the cost of a campsite $20-40 for a motor home. AND finally the cost of gas - this summer at least $3.25 a gallon and figure 8-10 mpg. at best.

This puts your per night cost for camper & site alone at $150-170. I have to think you can do better than that at a moderate hotel. And a car that gets good mileage could be had for $180-200 a week with good planning.

Clearly you are computer literate, take the time to pack a laptop, and stop at a coffee and wi-fi site each morning, grab a coffee and score that night's room at a discount travel site. Then hit the road for the day's adventure, knowing your room is waiting up ahead.

If your heart is set on camping though, you might try craig;s list and see if anyone owns a private camper they might rent cheaper than a big rental outfit.

Happy Trails!
