If you rent a condo for a weekend, can the owner come in without your knowledge while you are out?
I rented a condo for the weekend on the gulf coast for my 2 daug. and 3 grandchildren so they could swim in the condo pool at Horseshoe Beach, FL, while the rest of the family went scolloping. This condo did not allow pets, of which I knew and had every intention of complying with. I was staying in my motorhome close by. I was going to keep my daug. small dog in my motorhome. The power happened to go off at the campsite, Temp outside was 98 deg. or hotter and motorhome was in full sun. I waited a little while for power to be restored, but after 1 hour, it didn't. I went and took myself and the dog to the condo, until power problem was fixed. Everyone was gone from the condo, I waited a while there, then went back to camper to see if power was back on, it was, So I went back to condo to get pet and go back to camper. While I was at condo the owner of the condo knocked, I answered, he came in yelling about a dog being in the condo, about the temp. of the condo being too low, and about the golf cart being plugged in at the parking space, also made other rude comments.I tried to explain my problem, but he was too irate to hear me. The owner had admitted he had entered the condo while I had been out and found all these things. The last 2 items were not addressed on the rental agreement, of course, I knew the pet should not have been there, but I didn't know how long power was going to be off, I had no intention of leaving pet there the whole time. I know I broke the pet rule, but I or the petwas not going to heat to death in the motorhome. I didn't realize at the time owner said that he had entered the condo while I was gone, the impact of that statement. When I had explained the event to my daughter, she was very mad, she stated, what if he had come in while my daugh and the baby was asleep, what if something at been stolen, After thinking about the situation, I am very angry now.
Is it against the law for an owner to enter a rented condo while the renter is gone?
Public Comments
1. That depends on local laws. In some places he can. In some he can only for specific purposes.
If you even suspect that anything is missing or damaged, have the person whose name is on the rental contract notify him, and let him know that further action will be forthcoming. (You sound as if you'll understand what I didn't say.)
2. only for emergency maintenance.
if he had a cam, he would have seen you enter with the dog.
