From Phoenix to Grand Canyon in RV Rental? Any suggestions?
We'll be flying into Phoenix for a convention. After it's over, I would just love to coordinate renting an RV to tour around a few days and see the Grande Canyon. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if there's an easier, logical way to do this. We likely would be picking up a rental car at the airport on arrival so we can get to the convention hotel and get around for a few days. When the convention ends we would need to either drive to an RV rental in Phoenix then return the car and go on to the GC or keep the rental car and go to GC and rent an RV or Cabin there. I don't want to pay for both an RV and a rental car.
I'm starting to go cross-eyed with all these Websites about RV Rentals etc and really would like to hear from somebody with experience to share on this subject.
Would also appreciate a good campground recommendation for us novis campers.
Any ideas or suggestions on a GC cabin rental as an alternative?
Thanks for your help!

1. For just a few days do you really want to rent an RV. Bad gas mileage, slower than a car. There are hotels at the Canyon or just outside the park at Tusayan or down at Williams which is 60 miles away.
From Phoenix, go up towards Prescott and than through Jerome, down to Sedona (tourist trap) but Oak Creek Canyon is beautiful and then spend the night in Flagstaff. The next morning go to the Canyon and spend the day. Spend the night at the Canyon or at Cameron. Than head for Canyon de Chelly. Take the hike down into the canyon or the jeep ride up the canyon. The next day head back to Phoenix through Showlow and Salt River Canyon or down through Payson.
You might want to make reservations at the Canyon or Cameron as they get crowded in the summer.
2. Most Rv places do rentals just price them out as far as miles Grnad canyon nearly 200 miles one way uphill and gas up that way about 20 cents higher than valley!? campground i'd stay in Williams and maybe do a trip into Grand canyon from there, and maybe visit jerome, Sedona maybe prescott as well..
3. It would be cheaper and faster to just rent a car and drive up.
