How much will it cost to replace the transmission on my automatic 1979 VW bus westfalia? (estimate OK)?

I have a 1979 VW bus westfalia and I think the transmission is going out. My dad wants to sell but I want to see how much it would cost to replace the transmission.

1. call around your local area...we replaced a mercedes transmission and called around and got quotes from $1600 to $4500. consider rebuilding or having someone rebuild for you. GMC van tranny was $550.
